Owner/Founder, Athena Apparel Solutions
Kara Welch is an experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled Apparel Product Manager and Creator with proven ability to provide the highest level of product creation. With nearly two decades of industry experience, Kara can expertly spearhead every step of the apparel process, including design, fabric, color, fit, product development, costing, garment construction, sourcing, manufacturing, trends and forecasting.
Before starting her thriving apparel company, she worked for a variety of prestigious athletic/outdoor brands, including Reebok, Timberland, New Balance and Bauer Hockey.
Her passion for design started at the early age of 5 when she began sewing. She learned valuable skills from her mother and grandmother, both accomplished seamstresses. Throughout high school and college, she gained additional experience working in fabric stores and her mother’s successful interior design/decorating company as well as expertly designing and creating formal gowns for her high school and college dances.
After graduating from Framingham State College (Framingham, Massachusetts), with a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Design, Kara landed a coveted spot at the Paris Institute of Fashion, where she completed an intensive certification program in Fashion Design.
An avid athlete, she enjoys running, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, hiking, kayaking, snowmobiling, triathlons, CrossFit, yoga and adventure races. A competitive swimmer, softball player and dancer in her youth, she has been coaching dance/Color Guard since the age of 18, encouraging her award-winning high school teams to try hard, gain confidence and most of all have fun.
Athena Apparel Solutions combines her two passions – clothing design and sports – to create fashionable, functional apparel that withstands the demands of an active lifestyle.
